I haven’t gone regularly to a church in over 5 years. I can’t believe it when I look at those words. Especially since I have become closer to & more satisfied in Christ in these last few years than I have ever been before. And I think because of that I have a little bit more of an itch to begin regularly attending church again. And, just as God always does, He timed it so that I would read the perfect criteria for a church at the exact moment in my life when I start thinking about going again:
Some may fear that we are magnifying private religion out of all proportion, that the ‘us’ of the New Testament is being displaced by a selfish ‘I’. Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshippers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship. Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified. The body becomes stronger as it’s members become healthier. The whole Church of God gains when the members that compose it begin to seek a better and higher life.
